Housing

The VA and Department of Housing and Urban Development operate HUD-VASF, a program that helps homeless veterans and their families secure permanent housing. As of September 30, 2015, the program had issued more than 78,000 vouchers to help veterans in need.

HUD works with local public housing authorities to offer rental assistance vouchers for homeless veterans that qualify for VA health care services. Case managers at the VA work with veterans in the program to ensure they receive adequate mental health, health care and other support services. HUD-VASH helps more homeless veterans find housing than any other comparable program.
